Elbe River Cycling Path

Our three-day bike ride through the Bohemian countryside of the Czech Republic to Prague was a trip through history and landscape. We stopped for overnight stays in Litoměřice and Mělník, both charming and historic towns set high on hills—beautiful to see, but a challenge to reach with our heavy e-bikes. In Litoměřice, we discovered a tiny restaurant tucked several floors underground in an old cave, where Czech goulash and roast duck warmed us after our long ride. We had lots of sun as we rode along the river, passing castles, small villages, sprawling farm fields, and even a stark reminder of the Cold War—a nuclear power plant with its smoking towers rising above the fields. Golden cypress trees bordered the calm, wide river that reflected the lights of each town we approached. We arrived in Mělník just in time to watch the sunset from the fortress walls. Known as the Napa Valley of the Czech Republic, Mělník came with a special toast to a great cycling trip.
