We’ve been so lucky to meet wonderful people along our journey on the Malerweg — and Ottendorf was no exception. Our generous hostel host offered us a ride to the trailhead the next morning, dropping us off at a charming inn and restaurant that, she told us, was featured prominently in the movie Inglourious Basterds.
From there, the trail to Schmilka began by climbing over fallen trees and treading carefully over soggy ground, hoping the remaining trees would stay upright as we passed. After hours of hiking through pouring rain, our arrival in Schmilka felt all the more rewarding.
Tomorrow, we set off for the Czech Republic, where we’ll trade our hiking boots for bikes and continue the journey to Prague.
