We woke up this morning to a forecast of all day rain, feels like temperatures of low 30s, and wind gusts of 35 mph, all lined up for the most challenging section on the Malerweg. Over coffee we tried to think up alternate plans, but ended up deciding on continuing our adventure as planned and hope the rocks and ladders weren’t too slippery.
It ended up being a good call—it rained lightly for the first hour, and somewhat heavier for the last two hours, but for all of the ups and downs in the middle, we were dry and warm, and right on the edge of our comfort zone. The hike was 12 miles and took us about 8 hours, and we had a ball.
The ladder rung going up were much easier than the slippery steps down, but we took our time and stopped dozens of times for incredible pictures. The rock formations were stunning, and enormous! I don’t know if my camera captured the full scale, but it’s seared in my memory!
